Omega Bioservices is searching for a Senior Scientist in Atlanta, GA. Candidates within a commutable distance to Atlanta, GA are encouraged to apply.

This is a full-time position. The schedule is Monday-Friday, 9 AM - 6 PM with occasional overtime.

The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge and skills, as well as extensive experience and demonstrated accomplishments in genomics and genetics testing with an emphasis on next-generation sequencing (NGS) methods, development of high throughput bioinformatic analyses, and accurate interpretation of results. Technical expertise as well as team and program leadership experience will be required. PhD or 5 years experience equivalent to a PhD-level scientist is preferred.

Basic function and scope of responsibility:

The Senior Scientist is primarily responsible for the leadership of assay design, development and validation efforts for both clinical and preclinical tests, as well as for providing technical support to customers for the NGS product and services.

Essential job duties:

  • Provide leadership for NGS assay design, development and validation efforts for both clinical and preclinical lab testing
  • Provide supervision and technical guidance for Research Scientists, and oversight for projects they are conducting, to ensure program productivity and efficiency
  • Work closely and effectively with VP of R&D to ensure that R&D projects are progressing and milestones are achieved pursuant to organization and/or client timelines
  • Communicate effectively with both internal team members and external clients regarding scientific/technical issues and projects
  • Review all designs and validations to make sure that both contractual and customer expectations are managed to successful project completion. Provide leadership and problem solving for customer support
  • Write verification/validation plan, procedure and report in accordance with methodologies established by Omega Bioservices
  • Maintain and enhance laboratory resources (facilities, personnel, equipment and reagents) to prioritize use of equipment, manpower, and facilities for maximum productivity and efficiency
  • Provide expertise in project planning and timeline development and management. Develop a cost-effective plan and schedule for completion of project following a logical pattern for utilization of resources
  • Track and control progress, schedule and associated costs to achieve completion of project within time and budget
  • Manage project risks, define mitigation plans, and report to stakeholders and upper management about progress and any necessary modifications of plans required
  • Develop and exhibit expertise in genetics, genomics, epigenetics, immunoassays, and other types of diagnostic assays
  • Develop an effective working relationship with Regulatory Affairs/Quality Assurance to assure laboratory is in compliance with Omega Bioservices' established guidelines for documentation, quality, and safety as well as with GLP, CLIA, and CAP
  • Maintain current knowledge of advances in pertient scientific fields, as well as knowledge of applicable state and federal regulations germane to molecular and diagnostic laboratories through attending lectures, seminars, professional conferences and courses
  • Preparation of poster presentations for national scientific meetings; prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals
  • Identify and develop training programs for Lab Scientists and dedicated staff; regularly contribute to laboratory team meetings that focus on associate training, development, and continuous improvements in laboratory processes
  • Represent department and organization favorably and in accordance with established company standards and associate attributes at all times
  • Participate in developing corporate goals, objectives and systems
  • Other duties as assigned by management

Essential knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Advanced degree in Genetics, Microbiology, Immunology, Biology, Biochemistry or a related field is required; PhD degree required
  • 5 years diagnostic and/or molecular or immunology laboratory experience preferred
  • At least 5 years of experience in assay development, validation, and transition to a clinical environment
  • Expertise and experience in biochemistry, molecular biology/genomics, genetics or immunology assay development, verifiable through patents, publications, or description of completed projects
  • Strong leadership, management and communication skills
  • Demonstrated proven experience in managing complex projects, ability to succeed even with challenging projects, appreciation of priorities and critical factors
  • Substantial technical writing: protocols, study reports, regulatory communications, and manuscripts
  • An innovative and prepared mind to identify and protect unique intellectual properties is a bonus

Omega Bioservices, a Norcross based biotech company, is seeking a highly motivated and innovative scientist with extensive expertise in next-generation sequencing (NGS)-based applications to join our business development team. The successful candidate will be a key member of the Business Development team and support the development of microbiome assays to fully characterize Omega Bioservices' novel induced customer oriented test and products. The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge and technical experience with NGS and real-time PCR related methodologies, as well as a strong background in the associated analytical and bioinformatics knowledge. The major responsibility of this position is to apply state-of-the-art genetic methods (RNA-Seq, WGS, WES, microbiome profiling (16S and ITS test). Experience working in a clinical diagnostic environment is strongly preferred but not required. This is a full-time position reporting to the Senior Scientist and it is located at our corporate headquarters in Norcross, GA.


  • Establishes and maintains an effective working relationship with client while representing Omega Bioservices
  • Independently designs, validated, and executes NGS-related test methods in a timely and compliant fashion
  • Responsible for the day-to-day management of client projects, effectively communicating with both internal team members and external clients regarding scientific/technical issues and projects, and ensure project-related milestones are being met in a timely manner
  • Independently manages multiple projects simultaneously; responsible for a daily overseeing of project progress, providing technical input and troubleshooting when applicable
  • Provides technical support to laboratory through the successful execution of assigned assays
  • Help lab to track and verify that materials required for the execution of assays are available and qualified for use
  • Creates, maintains, reviews, and approves SOPs, procedure manuals, templates, and other documentation
  • Works closely with the bioinformatics scientists to help develop, test, and support NGS data analysis tools and pipelines

PhD in life sciences with 5 years working experience in a related fields, or a Master degree in life sciences with 10 years of applicable work experience
