Oragene Saliva/Mouthwash
Preserving saliva using the Oragene DNA collection kit from DNA Genotek is the easiest way to collect high-quality and quantity samples for saliva DNA and RNA extraction, with low cost and complexity. The Oragene DNA kit is gaining increasing popularity in the diagnostic and genomics services area. It produces DNA yield comparable to blood without the need for phlebotomy, refrigerated storage and transportation.Alternative oral collection methods, such as mouthwash, are also widely used in epidemiology and genetic studies.

We have developed saliva DNA and RNA extraction kits designed for processing Oragene DNA and mouthwash samples, in both silica filter and magnetic beads format. We have the flexibility to either extract an aliquot (e.g. 200 µL) or the entire 4 mL Oragene DNA sample for maximum yield, both automated on our robotic platforms.

Besides the Oragene DNA kit, we also offer service for the full line of Oragene products: Oragene RNA, Oragene DX, OMNIgene DISCOVERY, Oragene ANIMAL and Performagene LIVESTOCK.

Expected Yield:

Because the saliva collection kits are frequently used as self-collection kits, the DNA yield varies and very often is dependent on how well the user complies to the saliva DNA and RNA extraction instruction. In our experience, typically up to 100 µg DNA can be obtained from a full 4 mL Oragene vial.

The Omega Advantage:

  • Ability to process small aliquots or large volume (4 mL) of Oragene samples
  • Automated robotic platforms for all extractions, regardless of volume

Turnaround time:

  • Same day service available
  • Large scale projects, please inquire

Additional Services:

  • Agarose gel electrophoresis QC
  • SNP genotyping
  • Sample concentration normalization from tube-to-tube or tube-to-plate
  • Consultation for downstream analyses and study design
Buccal swabs
Buccal swabs are the collection method of choice for many genetics-related testing services. Collecting buccal cells from a person’s cheek using a brush or swab is a noninvasive way to obtain DNA of sufficient quantity and quality for clinical genetic tests such as mutation screening, legal services such as paternity testing, and in particular, direct-to-consumer (DTC) genetic testings such as geneaology services.Expected Yield: The DNA yield varies and is dependent on several factors including the technique of the person taking the swab, whether the donor is a high or low shedder, and the type of swab used. Using our Mag-Bind? kit, typically we can extract up to 10 µg of DNA per swab.

The Omega Advantage:

  • Ability to accept all types of swabs: nylon brushes, cotton Q-tips, sponge brushes
  • Ability to process archived buccal swab samples on FTA cards
  • Automated robotic platforms for all extractions

Turnaround time:

  • Same day service available
  • Large scale projects, please inquire

Additional Services:

  • Fragment analysis: Identifier analysis or other custom STR analysis
  • Agarose gel electrophoresis QC
  • Real-time qPCR
  • Sample concentration normalization from tube-to-tube or tube-to-plate
  • Consultation for downstream analyses and study design
